“The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.” – Jesus
External is temporal; internal is eternal. To work only on external leaves one in a continual state of disappointment. All external is temporary and subject to change. The beauty of 18 will give way to beauty of another kind at 80. Pleasure at 30, will look different at 90.
I’ve discovered that external accomplishment, regardless of the degree, can leave you empty. “Now moments of pleasure” yield their own emptiness and dissatisfaction. Desperation and passionate plea, once consumed, can yield life-long remorse and regret.
Where is the kingdom? Where is happiness? I believe we will search lifetime(s) and still wonder. But for today, here is what I have seen:
It is good and fitting for one to eat and drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labor in which he toils under the sun all the days of his life which God gives him; for it is his heritage.
