“You sound just like your dad!” “You look just like your mom.” “You and your brother are so much alike.” “You are a spitting image of your grandmother!”
With everyone telling you how much you look like, sound like, or act just like someone else, do you ever stop and ask yourself the question, “Who am I? The answer to that question is where your magic lies.
Until you strip away all of the opinions of man, and even those you have formulated about yourself, you can never ever get to the core of who you are. Of course, if you won’t even ponder the question, it’s really impossible to discover a you that may be hidden deep within the you everyone else thinks you are; or maybe even the one you’ve come to believe you are.
Socrates said, “The unexamined life is not worth the living.”
Who do you think you are?
To know is the power to Be. Simply being, uninhibited by doctrine, philosophy, or opinion of man and self, is the key to being free.
When Moses, the leader of the Israelites, asked God about His identity, God replied, “I AM WHO I AM.” When Moses asked God who he should tell the Children of Israel sent him to lead them, it’s recorded that God replied, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you.” We hear this same language from The One called Jesus, The One claiming to be God in the flesh. When Jesus was asked who he thought He was, he simply replied, “I Am that I am.” (Like Father like Son)
You are “I Am” too; it’s standard issue.
How do you live in this ultimate created identity? You die. Death is the key to life. Death to doctrine, to philosophy to the opinions of man and yourself; it’s the only way to be free. You can’t live in who you think you are, or who someone has told you that you are, and “I Am” at the same time.
One last thought…don’t be afraid of the one you might become if you die to the one you are. If you believe that you will somehow turn “corrupt” if you let go of everything you know, and embrace the You that you have been created to be, you will remain in bondage. You will have to physically die before being free.
Begin today to let go of who you know so you can grow. Begin today to trust that there is a you inside of you that you still have yet to come to know; one created to succeed and not self-destruct. If you do, you can begin to enjoy the freedom you were meant to have now while you remain here on this earth.
Who do you think you are? To know is the power to be.
